Central Connecticut State University

Eastern Illinois University
- Making elder care arrangements due to last minute schedule changes is listed as an acceptable emergency use of a university phone card.
- While the above is in no way a benefit, it illustrates nicely the need for policies and recognizes that employees will have these commitments and that they have priority, e.g. it is okay to use university resources to accomodate them when the university asks you to work late for some reason.
- Eastern also has a pdf pamphlet of resources for Elder Care.
- This is a good sign. But the pamphlet is problematic in that the resources listed are rather generic--nothing specific to Eastern or to Charleston or Eastern Illinois. This may be an out of date pamphlet.
- On the other hand, Eastern's Gerontology Department maintains a service called, FACES (Families Accessing Caregiver Educational Support), which purports to
assist persons with connecting to elder care servies.
The information on the website suffers from the same generic quality as the pamphlet, but the site does seem to indicate that a person can help from an actual human being. I e-mailed the site to find out more.
Grand Valley State University
- Grand Valley has a Work Life Connections Program that offers assistance with Elder Care.
- The Work Life Connections web site describes a series that people can sign up for in order to learn more about services, etc. in the area. Employees can also make an appointment with a Work Life consultant.
- This seems a model we might want to find out more about.
James Madison University
- Employee Assistance Program will discuss elder care issues with employees.
- James Madison University's Faculty Senate endorsed the idea of providing on site child and elder care in 2003. It's not clear that this went anywhere.
Minnesota State University Mankato
- The Managerial Plan(page 15) allows for unpaid leave for elder care for managers at supervisor's discreton. Other agreements mimic this language.
Missouri State University
- Missouri State has a Work / Life Committee that listed "elder care" as one of the coming top issues in 2006. Nothing much seems to have been done at the policy level since then.
